French ConnectionTasha Cousins aka Empress Bitch Date - Sat. Dec. 31, 2005
The vibes for this linkup went downhill after idlerz were informed that pre-sold tickets of $3,000 were sold out at every outlet the day before the party. Most of those who had planned to make this their "New Years Outing" were reluctant to pay an extra grand for the event. However, Agent Weedy, Bertitude and I were still determined to make it, and hopefully have a good time. Agent Weedy and I arrived to the venue at around 10:30 pm that Sunday night; we had to get there early in order to ensure that we got tickets and food. We were greeted by a "nice" long line which led from the street to the venue; it seemed as if most of the patrons were outside rather than inside the party. I guess the promoters thought that having a limited number of pre-sold tickets would be a good money making scheme. As fate would have it, a lady in her late 30's stepped into the line where Weedy and I were standing, and offered us 2 pre-sold tickets. At first, we were skeptical about their authenticity, but the competition to get a hold of tickets made us suck it up and buy them. Alas, we still had to wait around outside for quite awhile as Bert hadn't been as fortunate, he still had to wait in the looooong queue to purchase a ticket.
The entrance to the venue itself was pretty impressive. Red carpet was laid out on the walkway and lined with girls, dressed in gold and cranberry outfits. Inside, there were three bars and two lounge areas, while the food was housed by big, red tents. By 11:45pm, even though New Years was on its way, no one had found their way on to the dance floor, instead they were all lined up for food. The whole process of getting food was unorganized, mainly because the plates were at the end of the line and not at the start, as they were expected to be. Thankfully, we formulated a little system that worked, while Weedy got the plates, Bert grabbed us drinks, and I kept our space in the line. The tent we chose had salt-fish fritter balls; I had expected to see more French food....you know...in keeping with the party's theme. The French theme was somewhat present, but not nearly as close to the "French Riveria" as was advertised. Mimes were present, but did not capture as much attention as the French maids, who were serving the drinks. I wish there had been some sexy, French male-maids for the women to appreciate, but instead there some sorry ass looking guys dressed in white, ruffled shirts. In addition, there were two metal statues and an ice sculpture, which served as representations of the Eiffel Tower. The countdown for midnight was weak as the guests were still focused on getting food. At 12am, red, blue and white balloons (representing the colors of the French flag) were released onto the dance floor amidst a great spectacle of fireworks. It was this that signaled everyone to the dance floor, finally.
Overall, I found the party a major disappointment, mainly because it did not live up to its promised hype. The dance-floor was not very conducive to walking on, much less dancing, as it was way too slippery. Some of the bars closed early, causing the ones left open to become more packed. The limited amount of pre-sold tickets that were available, and the major age group of the crowd, turned me off. I should not be partying with individuals whom I use to baby-sit. I am positive that I would have had a better time if there were more idlerz present. Oh well, I did enjoy myself to the best that I could, and was still able to ring in the New Year with friends ..... afterall, that's what is more important...right?
