Cala's Birthday PartyCarla Hollingsworth aka Reggaecala / Tasha aka Empress Bitch Date - Wed. Dec. 21, 2005
Cala's Pre-party reviewThere is no place like home. Originally, my birthday get together was supposed to be a small affair. I got so homesick while away at school and had been missing my family, friends and Jamaica; I wanted this party to help make up for all of that by having most of my friends and loved ones gathered in one setting. I figured, "yup...a small intimate, little affair", but after thinking about how many friends and special people there were in my life, my list grew from around 25 to 50 people. Eventually, after tallying up the figures of those whom I had invited, along with the guests they were to bring, I realistically expected no less than 70 people to show up for my now "birthday bash".
I arrived home on December 20th, only to be greeted with the news that I was not to be receiving my luggage from American Airlines. I was peeved, but not enough to deter me from getting ready for the party...but still... FRIGGIN AIRLINE! On December 21st, I drove around on Kingston's hot roads, in the damn traffic, getting chasers, snacks...etc, for the event. THANK GOD for my family, my step-mother was responsible for the food, and thanks to her, the massive would be fed as I had planned to do the entire event "Yankee" style. The only food I had intended on serving was peanuts, and that was just to soak up the alcohol. Paulette, my step-mother, out did herself and I love her for that. She ordered the tables, while her mother did the candles and table cloths, and my sister hooked up the lights. My dad provided the funds so that I could buy everything else that was needed, and my brother drove me around, he even tried a little "sumn sumn" with the music. My friend Monica, prepared the food while putting up with my pushy attitude (yes, I was being a pain), and Aunty Maureen provided the bartender and the security guards. How can I not appreciate all the help and support? After everything was setup and ready, I posted myself by the front gate....eager and ready for the festivities to begin. Empress Bitch party review
RegggaeCala's 22 nd birthday party promised to be one of the biggest IL linkups since the infamous I-20 as both foreign, and yardie idlerz were to be present. I was definitely looking forward to the event; it would be like a family reunion for me as I hadn't seen many of the idlerz for quite awhile. On Wednesday night of December 21 st , I set out for the party along with Hypegal18 , Agent Weedy and a non-idler, as well as a Heineken six pack and some Coconut rum (after all, it was a bottle party). It was a short drive to Carla's as she lived within the same area as me, and once on her avenue we had no problem spotting the house as it had the most cars parked outside, and some serious music blaring. We entered the "venue" and were immediately greeted by the security guards, (I'm serious...they were packing handcuffs AND guns) . Once we were able to get pass them, we were approached by Carla, she was so animated and bubbly that one couldn't help but to like her right off the bat, she greeted us warmly...and loudly.... then directed us to the bar. The party guests were separated into two groups: Idlerz on one side of the yard and non-idlerz, Carla's "other" friends, on the other. Finger food was served buffet style, while the drinks were made and served by a bartender. The music, which was ever HYPE, was provided by Carla's ipod. When we arrived at the scene, the idlerz were chatting and joking around about one thing, "Swiss actually come out of him yaad?!"
Ofcoarse, the fact that it was night and the sun had gone down hours before, probably had something to do with his debut.
At first, we all just chilled together: eating and liquoring up, while chatting with those whom we hadn't seen in awhile, as well as getting to know the idlerz that we were meeting for the first time (in person). Carla's house had been setup so nicely that we were able to lounge around in comfort, making good use of the tables and chairs that had been arranged on the front lawn. There was no "shyness" among us; one would never have been able to tell that half of us had never "met" each other before. We were loud and hype, I think we intimidated the rest of Carla's friends as they stood grouped up under the patio....eyeing us. In the midst of our "chillin" moment, the rain began to fall...small drops at first, so many of us didn't budge from our spot on the lawn (we nuh fraid ah watah), but then it started to really pour.....so yeah....we had to move and head for cover under the patio. However, this did not dampen our spirits; in fact it was just the opposite as some idlerz took charge of the moment and decided that there was no better time to start the dancing than right there, in the rain. The vibes were started up by The Mystic One, Spectro and Agent Weedy ; they practically busted out from their little spots in the shade, and set up position in the uncovered drive-way. In the blink of an eye they were joined by Sweety Bella and JaPhoenixVibez . The group made it clear that the water was not an issue...and was not going to put party plans on hold due to it. Ofcoarse, the sensible guests stayed in the garage observing them... ehm ...like me.
After the rain eased up, Carla's birthday cake was brought out and "Happy Birthday" was sung. The birthday girl made a speech in which she thanked her friends for celebrating with her; she even threw in a promotion for Idlerzlounge, which of course caused all the idlerz to make a bag ah noise , causing the non-idlerz to gape at us. Once that was all over, the dancing and chatting resumed. I stayed in the garage for most of the night, catching up with idlerz and getting jokes, especially from Narc (whom I thought was drunk). I made sure to observe the dancers, trying to catch the new dance moves for later on. I was not in a dancing mood, especially due to all the soca songs that were being played (yeah, I don't like soca music....sue me ) ....but of course I was danced on by idlerz. Carla's birthday party had indeed been a successful linkup, especially due to the massive turn out of both local and foreign idlerz. There would have been no better place to have such a successful linkup than IL's homeland, Jamaica.
